North Dakota Poetry Out Loud program
Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 09:30 am - 02:30 pm
Categories: all, NDCA EventsNow more than ever, our students need opportunities for synthesizing and expressing feelings and emotions. To provide a more inclusive program and ensure ALL students in North Dakota have access to rich social/emotional and English/Language Arts learning, our 2020-21 ND POL Program will be going virtual.
Due to COVID restrictions, this year’s POL State Final Competition will be held through a video submission and remote judging process.
School Champions must register for the State Finals and submit video of three poem recitations by February 5, 2021. Judges will remotely review and score poems from rounds one and two on February 22 - 24. Scores will be averaged and the top five competitors from rounds one and two will be announced and move forward to a third round of competition. The third round of competition will again be scored remotely by judges and take place on February 26th. A pre-recorded video presentation of the top five finalists’ recitations and announcement of the 2021 ND State POL Champion will be aired on March 10th, 2021.
North Dakota artists works currently on display at the Capitol
Friday, April 30, 2021 at 08:00 am - 05:00 pm
Categories: all, NDCA EventsNDCA is exhibiting the works Bismarck artist William “Bill” Brien through April 2021 on the 18th, or observatory floor, of the Capitol Building. This excellent well-lit space provides great views, in addition to displaying historical photos of the Capitol building over the years. NDCA is also exhibiting photos taken by Troyd Geist, NDCA's State Folklorist, in the Governor’s staff offices on the ground floor through April 2021. NDCA celebrates, documents, and preserves folk arts and our state’s cultural heritage through fieldwork and the Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program. These images are a sampling of such efforts related to fieldwork, apprenticeships, performances, and special projects, taken between 2009-2016. More information on the featured artists is available here.
