The governing board of directors for the North Dakota Council on the Arts consists of nine members, one from each of the state's eight regions and one member-at-large. Each member is appointed by the governor to serve five-year terms. The full board convenes three times a year in meetings that are open to the public. An executive committee, which includes the board's chair and two additional members, meets occasionally throughout the year to discuss relevant topics and make recommendations to the full board.
